For over 15 years, a dedicated community of volunteers, working alongside club-engaged contractors, has painstakingly developed the Mountain Bike trail system, a project made possible through community fundraising and grants. This extensive network caters to all skill levels, from beginner to expert, offering a diverse riding experience with hand-cut singletrack, machine-groomed flow, drops, jumps, skinnies, rock gardens, and numerous other exciting features. Unlike many council-managed facilities, the ongoing maintenance of these trails is the sole responsibility of the Toowoomba Mountain Bike Club (TMBC) volunteers and their funded contractors, supported entirely by the generous contributions of TMBC members and community donors, not the Toowoomba Regional Council.
Although Jubilee Park has many excellent official trails to ride, riders should also be aware that Toowoomba has a vibrant and established mountain bike culture, complete with all manner of local legends, rogues and rascals, and as such, there is also an extensive “Pirate Trail” system.
These unsanctioned trails are built by very talented young, and not so young trail builders, and if they were official trails, they would mostly be rated at black diamond, and double black diamond. These trails are not condoned by the TMBC, and riders are advised that if they choose to ride these unsanctioned trails, they do so at their own risk. They are secret trails, are not on any maps, and emergency services will have a very difficult time finding you if you get lost, or injured on these trails. Toowoomba Regional Council will also fine anyone caught riding these trails.
Pirate trails are not only located in Jubilee Park, but can also be found in other areas of Toowoomba’s Eastern Escarpment, and can be identified by a lack of signage. All official trails in the Toowoomba area have a blue sign at the entrance.
